Report reveals data breach "epidemic"
An independent report commissioned by Apple reveals that data breaches are at an all-time high; calls for more encryption.
Hey friends, an independent report was shared by Apple last week detailing the dramatic rise in data breaches over the past few years, which are now at an all-time high. According to Apple, the study “found clear and compelling proof that data breaches have become an epidemic, threatening sensitive and personal consumer data the world over.”
Key numbers from the report reveal that 2.6 billion personal records were compromised in 2021 and 2022 and that 360 million people were victims of data breaches in the first eight months of 2023 alone. Among the data targeted, 80 percent involved data stored in the cloud.
The report shows that data breaches have resulted in the collection of numerous types of personal records including driver licenses, text messages, emails, medical records, credit card info, location data, and more.
