AI-generated images are flooding Facebook. And why the fediverse will change the social web.
Hey friends, millions of Facebook users are liking, commenting, and sharing posts that feature AI-generated images believed to be real, according to a report released last week by 404 Media.
Many of the AI-generated images are copies based on real images, often portraying artists with their work. For example, photos featuring professional chainsaw sculptor Michael Jones and his work have been stolen and reproduced using AI by a system known as “image-to-image,” which produces variations of original images.
Jason Koebler of 404 Media notes that while fake AI-generated content was expected across the web, Facebook has yet to make any progress on removing and labeling fake images.
