A simple guide to understanding privacy policies
Few people read privacy policies. They’re long and often include legalese that makes it challenging to understand exactly how your data will be used. For this reason, most of us just click Accept when creating online accounts.
Fortunately, the folks at The Markup created an easy to follow guide that helps us better understand privacy policies. This is possible because privacy policies are required by law to follow a particulate layout, as The Markup notes.
“They follow a predictable structure, meaning you can learn to navigate them, spotting key sections and passages from a safe skimming height, swooping down only to extract the juiciest morsels of information or to leverage an opportunity to opt out of certain collection (or to opt in to deeper, more personalized disclosure).”
